Ghost Month

August is Ghost Month and to get rid of the bad spirits and ghosts, people burn incense, food, and money to the Gods. Throughout this month I have seen many businesses, food stands, and stores burn food and money outside to ensure they have good business. It seems like at least once a month stores and restaurants would burn things outside on the sidewalk. I don't remember exactly what day it was but one day it got really bad that when I was going to work the air smelled like a fire pit and there was ash flying everywhere.

My cousin and I went to Shilin night market this afternoon and we were going to get some mango shaved ice. While we were going to the stand, there was a huge ceremony of people sacrificing pigs, food, and money. Above are the pictures of the things being sacrificed. There were also a puppet show going on and people were burning incense and praying to the Gods. I'm not sure exactly if it still relates to Ghost month since it's Sept. now. It might just be a routinal thing.
