High pitched voice=Cantonese accent

At work today there was a ginormous, yes GINORMOUS, huge fly that landed on one of Drew's papers. My coworker killed it with a rolled up newspaper. My other coworker took a picture of it since she thought it was cool that it was such a huge fly since it seems that Taipei just has a lot of big bugs! Anyway we were staring at it for awhile when all of a sudden tiny baby maggots were coming out of it!! NASTY! It was so disgusting! I had dinner with my aunt tonight and we were talking about nasty bugs with my cousin and I started to tell them about the fly story. Before I got to the maggot part, my aunt said yeah the maggots were coming out of the fly right? I was so surprised she knew. She said she saw it before when she was little. Eww...so that's why the fly was big was because it was a female fly and it was pregnant.

On an interesting or maybe not so interesting note, I get mistaken for being Cantonese because when I speak Chinese they say I have a Cantonese accent. I think I definitely sound like an American when I speak Chinese. I was talking to my aunt and she said the reason why I sound "Cantonese" is because when I speak, I have a higher tone and pitch than a Mandarin speaker. So if I said 你在那里? (ni zai na li-Where are you?), I pronounce the last word a little higher than the rest of the sentence. I think it is funny since I just fluctuate more on my tones because I just have a lot of energy and I joke around by emphasizing the last word. Naturally I have a higher pitch voice but it's crazy that I get confused of being Cantonese. I just think it's hilarious!!
